Welcome to One Hot Stove!
My name is Nupur. I am an Indian woman currently living in the United States. I started writing this blog in February 2005 when I was living in New York City. Since 2007, One Hot Stove comes to you from St. Louis, Missouri.
This blog is a diary of my adventures in home cooking. I have a love for all things home made and hand made and a special interest in Indian regional cuisine. Join me as I write about whatever is cooking in my home, from simple everyday meals to attempts to replicate restaurant dishes, baking experiments and tastes of cuisines around the world.
You will occasionally see references to V, my significant other, and Dale, our sweet old mutt. My other interests, including reading and knitting, also feature on these pages now and then.
Apart from the recipes on this blog, here are some other articles I have written:
Guest post on Sailu's blog: A Simple Summer Meal from Maharashtra
Articles on Recipe Writing: Part I and Part II
The picture on the blog header shows a traditional Maharashtrian thali, where all the components of the meal are beautifully arranged on a banana leaf. This whimsical thali is knitted/crocheted with yarn by some talented yet unknown artist and was purchased by my mother in Tulsi Bagh market in Pune, India. You can see mounds of rice (plain, flavored and sweet), different vegetable preparations, the spiral jalebi and the semi-circular karanji. See a larger picture and a complete description of this thali at the bottom of this post. This picture represents my interest in home-style food, made and shared with love.
